HEALTHCARE NAVIGATION

We remove barriers and help newcomers get the appropriate, culturally-accessible healthcare they deserve.
Accessing healthcare in a new country can feel exceedingly overwhelming. Newcomers often face barriers such as language, technology, transportation, and navigating unfamiliar systems that prevent them from receiving the appropriate healthcare they need and deserve. At the same time, many new arrivals carry physical and mental health challenges stemming from trauma and the arduous journeys they have endured to reach safety. Our Healthcare Navigation Program supports newcomer immigrants and refugees by removing barriers and walking alongside families as they learn to navigate the U.S. healthcare system. We provide culturally responsive, compassionate support so every client feels empowered to get the medical care they need to stay healthy and thrive.
Services include:
  • Personalized care plans to meet individual and family health needs
  • Enrollment support for Medi-Cal, Refugee Medical Assistance (RMA), or other health insurance
  • Scheduling health assessments and medical appointments
  • Transportation assistance for medical visits, urgent care, and specialty services
  • Sharing medical records with providers for coordinated care
  • Mental health screenings (RHS-15) and referrals to services
  • Help enrolling in Medi-Cal managed care and choosing a primary doctor
  • Support with telehealth appointments and technology access
  • Guidance for urgent, emergency, and complex medical needs
  • Monthly check-ins and follow-up to ensure ongoing care
  • Health education workshops and wellness groups to build community

"BRFN helped me navigate the process of securing free bus transportation for my disabled daughter. They contacted the Alameda Transportation Department, connected me on a joint call, and ensured my daughter had access to transportation for school and hospital visits."
