Social Adjustment Services

Picture
Toward cultural orientation and system navigation:
BRFN provides culturally and linguistically competent intensive case management and social adjustment counseling for refugees from Burma to help in navigating the social service system, physical and mental health care services, and education in the United States. BRFN bilingual staff and volunteers help refugees from Burma with language interpretation of mail and notices, filling out forms, giving cultural orientation, making referrals, and arranging appointments. They also accompany refugees to social service agencies, hospitals, clinics, job interviews, and schools providing interpretation and guidance. Social support groups are also provided and examples of past and current groups are stress management groups, women knitting group, movie night gatherings, family field trips and mental health support groups. Social adjustgment services are also delivered through workshops.
