SUCCESS STORIES

"BRFN has been like family to me since the day I arrived in this country. Navigating a new life was overwhelming, but their team was always there, offering guidance and support every step of the way."

"I am originally from Africa, and my journey to the United States was long and filled with challenges. And as a new refugee in a completely unfamiliar country, I had no idea where to start. I was overwhelmed and unsure of what to do next, especially with the language barrier that made everything feel even more difficult.

But then I reached out to Bay Area Resources For Newcomers-BRFN, and everything started to change. The case manager assigned to me was incredibly understanding and patient, guiding me through every step of the process. Thanks to their support, I was able to obtain a work permit, which allowed me to start searching for a job. With their help, I found a job and, just as importantly, received a free bicycle for transportation. This simple yet crucial gesture made it possible for me to get to work without worrying about how to get there.

In addition to helping me establish a stable life here, BRFN’s case manager is also following up on my family's petition for my daughter. I hope to see her soon. I truly believe that without BRFN’s help, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve all that I have. Their support has been instrumental in my success, and I am incredibly grateful for everything they’ve done to help me build a new life here in the United States."

"[BRFN] helped me with practical matters such as finding free lawyers for immigration processes, finding housing, and enrolling in community programs. They also connected me to local networks that helped me build relationships and gain a sense of belonging, and make a lot of families [my] new family, and friends who are always surprising us with gifts every Christmas."

"I am deeply grateful to [my case manager] and BRFN for their unwavering support during my resettlement. After leaving Afghanistan in August 2021 and spending three months in various U.S. camps, [my case manager] facilitated my move to California, securing Airbnb accommodations and rental assistance. BRFN's ongoing support, including help with my asylum application and immigration matters, has been invaluable. Their dedication has significantly eased my transition."
