WHY WORK WITH BRFN: BRFN is the only ethnic community-based organization (ECBO) in Oakland which is staffed entirely by case managers and program managers who come from the communities they serve. BRFN has taken a leadership role in responding to the increasing needs of newer Afghan arrivals and is actively expanding their capacity to provide needed case management support for Afghans. BRFN works closely with Refugee & Immigrant Transitions and receives technical assistance and support from them.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW: BRFN works in close partnership with other organizations to serve newly-arrived refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers resettled in Alameda County, with the goal of empowering them to achieve economic and socio-cultural self-sufficiency as soon as possible. The program provides, advocates for, and links clients to linguistically and culturally-competent support. Current programs are the Social Integration/ Adjustment Services under four different collaborations and COVID education and access. Funding sources are mainly from Alameda County Social Services Agency (ACSSA), CA Department of Social Services and Oakland Fund for Children & Youth (OFCY) with a projected budget of $600,000+.
